Psalm 11--In the LORD put I my trust: how say ye to my soul, Flee as a bird to your mountain? For, lo, the wicked bend their bow, they make ready their arrow upon the string, that they may privily shoot at the upright in heart. If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do? The LORD is in his holy temple, the LORD's throne is in heaven: his eyes behold, his eyelids try, the children of men. The LORD trieth the righteous: but the wicked and him that loveth violence his soul hateth. Upon the wicked he shall rain snares, fire and brimstone, and an horrible tempest: this shall be the portion of their cup. For the righteous LORD loveth righteousness; his countenance doth behold the upright.
That is the voice we hear everyday. The voice that says, "Flee. You can solve your problems by just running away." This is the lie of the devil. He tries to deceive us into thinking that we can live better by living in isolation. But Jesus prayed that we be not taken from the world, but kept from the evil. Once again, the psalmist sees the wicked laying in wait for his soul. Their target: to shoot their deadly arrows into the heart of the upright. The psalmist is reminded that the Lord sits on His throne in heaven. The Lord still directs all events of life and still holds the believers in His arms. The reason we suffer is because our Head, the Lord Jesus Christ, suffered. The Apostle Paul tells the Phillipian church and us that it is a gift to suffer for Christ's sake. We also are reminded in this psalm that the Lord is Judge, and His just judgments will come and have already come upon the ungodly. He does this all for those who are righteous, solely because of His obedience to the Father, and His righteousness is imputed to us.
